Weekend guide to Aosta Valley

La Salle, Italy

If you follow me on Instagram, then you may know that last week my husband and I went to Aosta Valley in Italy.  It was a fun and easy trip, most of all because I forgot how it feels to road trip abroad after all the covid years.

The purpose of our trip was to relax and switch off from our daily routine, so I did not plan much for the trip. The last time we went to Aosta was 5 years ago ( just after we started dating), so the valley will always hold a very special place in my heart.

How to get there

We drove from Geneva to La Salle for about 2 hours via the Mont Blanc tunnel. Luckily the tunnel entry was not so busy and we did not spend much time queuing. The return pass is valid for 7 days so it was more than enough for a weekend!

Where to stay

Relais Mont Blanc Hotel & Spa has a GORGEOUS view across the Alps and is located at 1,040 m above sea level. It is close to the nearby ski slopes that the hotel shuttle service can connect you to during the winter months.

Relais Mont Blanc Hotel & Spa is built in traditional stone and wood.  It has a very unique mix of interior designs like terracotta floors, wood furniture, and a huge concrete fireplace with modern comfortable sofas. Other features that I liked were indoor and outdoor pools, spa, Wi-Fi, and satellite TV, with a wide selection of international channels (including my favorite HGTV!)

But most of all I really enjoyed the hospitality and excellent service – exactly how it was described on booking.com – “the world-class service“

Where to eat

As recommended on the hotel website, we made our dinner reservation at the hotel restaurant.   We really enjoyed the restaurant’s food, exceptional service, beautiful views, and cozy atmosphere with a fire in the back – a perfect romantic getaway for a couple!

The hotel offers a buffet and “a la carte” breakfast included in your room rate.

What to pack

Early spring can drastically change the day and night temperature, so I was happy to wear shorts during the day and jeans with my warm woolen cape later in the evening.

Don’t forget a swimsuit to treat yourself to the spa – towels, flip flops, and cozy bathrobes will be provided at the hotel.

What to do

Spend a day at the Spa

At the hotel, you have free access to a hammam, a Finnish sauna, a heated indoor pool, a jacuzzi, and a cave for relaxation where you can doze off or freshen up after an “emotional” shower or a waterfall.

Go for a hike

If you have an active lifestyle, the hotel is located close to the area’s most popular hiking trails!

Explore nearby area

Châtelard Castle: The hotel restaurant is facing the Châtelard Castle – it is a 13th-century medieval castle in the town of La Salle in the Aosta Valley region of Italy

Courmayeur town: It is a charming town that is worth visiting all year round with great skiing, hiking, shopping, and eating!
