One day in Nyon

If you had only one day to visit Nyon, where would you go first? Here is a perfect itinerary for any season!

Château de Nyon

Nyon Castle is a magnificent 12th century fortress that was transformed in the 16th century.  It is not only an important historical site, but a unique representation of Nyon. Walk towards the lake through the main gates and discover a picturesque view over the lake and the mountains.

If you turn to your right from the lake you can see the elevator and a path. Follow that path through an alley and you will see the Roman pillars.

Musée Romain

The Roman museum installed in the foundations of the basilica was built in the 1st century A.D.  The museum captures the life of the inhabitants of Noviodunum (also called Colonia Iulia Equestris – a Roman era settlement in what is now Nyon  in Switzerland). Culture lovers should also visit the Lake Geneva museum of the region called Musée du Léman.

On the Track of Tintin

One of the greatest comic strip cartoonists of the 20th century Hergè had chosen Nyon to add spice to the plot of disappearance of Professor Calculus in the story of the “Calculus Affair”. You can follow the steps of Calculus and Tintin with the guided tour available at Nyon Region Tourisme.

Fontaine Maîtres-Jacques

The Maîtres-Jacques fountain is a national heritage site since 1942 located in the heart of the “Quartier de Rive”.  The statue represents a Bernese man.

Mosaïque florale

This floral mosaic is composed by more than 18’000 flowers. The technology was inspired by the Roman stone mosaics.  You can find it in the heart of the “Parc du Bourg de Rive” every year.

Village des Pêcheurs

It is one of my favourite places in Nyon with a lively and warm atmosphere! It is a small area of fisherman’s huts located by the lake. Local fishermen still use traditional fishing methods and will be glad to sell you the catch of the day!

Plage de Nyon

Nyon beach is an excellent place for those who enjoy swimming and dining with lake views!
