3 attractions in Zermatt for a “rainy” day

Zermatt, Switzerland
Zermatt, Matterhorn

Undoubtedly, the most popular attraction in the village of Zermatt is the Matterhorn peak. Just in case you missed seeing it due to bad weather, here are three attractions that you can visit even on a gloomy day.

Hinterdorf

Hinterdorf is the oldest district in the village of Zermatt. Here, you’ll find barns, stables, and storage facilities built from the 15th to the 19th century. You’ll also discover a monument to the legendary mountaineer Ulrich Inderbinen – he summited the Matterhorn more than 370 times!

Matterhorn Museum – Zermatlantis

Under the glass dome near the village church lies a hidden world – Zermatlantis. Witness how people lived in 19th-century Zermatt and feel a shiver at the sight of the frayed rope from the very first ascent of the Matterhorn in 1865.

Mountaineers’ Cemetery

Many mountaineers who lost their lives on the Matterhorn and nearby mountains are buried in the cemetery of the Anglican Church of St. Peter. The “Grace of the Unknown Climber” monument stands in memory of over 500 individuals who perished on the Matterhorn since 1865.

Half a day should be enough to admire the village’s heritage, and who knows, the weather might clear up by then!
