The “kiss” method of reasonable consumption

Last week at the ZeroWaste Switzerland virtual conference I learned about “la méthode bisou,” which in french literally means “the kiss method”. Don’t worry this is not explaining guidelines on french kisses, but it is a method of reasonable consumption. I thought the name was quite funny and very “seasonable” as Valentine’s day is approaching. So, I wanted to share it with you today.

What is the “BISOU” method?

The “bisou” method is a very simple method that can turn your compulsive purchases into meaningful purchases and your hesitation into decisions. It is also easy to remember and apply in your daily life. All you need is to ask yourself these 6 questions before buying.

B: Do I NEED it? (Besoin is French for need)

I: Is it an IMMEDIATE need?

S: Do I have something SIMILAR?

O: Do I know the ORIGIN of the product?

U: Is it USEFUL?

The principle is not to refrain from buying, but to resist temptations that we sometimes regret afterward and to make more conscious choices.

Which one of these questions most relates to you?

Bisou,

Alessia!
