The village of Meursault owes its charm to its many beautiful winemakers’ houses, vast bourgeois properties and châteaux surrounded by their enclosures of vines.
What to visit
The Saint-Nicolas church bell tower (fr. “l’église Saint-Nicolas”), with its stone spire, is over 50 meters high.
The town hall (fr. “Mairie de Meursault”), with its glazed tile roof, is a former fortress dating from 1337. You would recognise this building from the French comedy “La Grande Vadrouille” (1966) which was partially filmed here. The comedy remained the most successful French film in France for over forty years.
Where to eat
Les Arts: I had a delicious steak with mushroom sauce (filet de bœuf sauce aux morilles) and gratin for lunch. I would also recommend Gaston Gérard Chicken (poulet sauce Gaston Gérard). If you are brave, you can also try local dishes like snails, beef bourguignon, poached eggs, Charolais steak with Époisses sauce.
Hotel du chevreuil also offers traditional Burgundian dishes and the house’s signature hot terrine from Mère Daugier, a specialty of the restaurant since 1870.
For a more fine-dining experience reserve a table at a Michelin restaurant Le Soufflot de Meursault.
