My husband and I love Grindelwald, such a beautiful and peaceful place surrounded by mountains. When his brother and his wife came to visit us, we immediately thought of bringing them there! That’s why we ended up booking the Bergwelt Grindelwald – Alpine Design Resort, and I wanted to share our experience at this specific hotel.
Location
Bergwelt Grindelwald – Alpine Design Resort is located in Grindelwald, overlooking a breathtaking mountain trail with a view of the Eiger north face. The area is popular for hiking and skiing with 3 ski lifts located nearby.
How to get there
By car: We drove to Grindelwald several times (once to go up to Jungfrau and several times to walk around the area) and found that it was really convenient – the drive through the valley surrounded by the mountains is sooo beautiful! The hotel provides paid underground parking (around 28chf) and I would never believe I would say it, but it was one of the most beautiful hotel parking I have seen. The industrial decor and dimmed lights illuminate the glass walls on the underground floor. When the glass door opens up, you understand that you are in a luxurious resort that puts lots of thought into the scent you smell and the ambient music. Very impressive!
By plane: Zurich airport is the nearest airport which is 150 km from Bergwelt Grindelwald. The hotel offers a paid airport shuttle service.
Rooms
We booked a “Luxury Room with Eiger view” and that view was one of the most spectacular ones I have seen in my life! It was totally worth it!
All the rooms are allergy-free and equipped with AC, a coffee machine, a safety deposit box, a smart TV, a minibar with free drinks, international, Swiss and USB sockets, and a private balcony. I loved sitting on our little balcony and watching the sunrise.
Beautiful design furniture with Swiss wood features gives a chalet style coziness and warmth. The bathroom was made of durable materials with a stone sink and a Dornbracht rain shower feature. I also liked that the hotel used local Swiss care products in refillable packaging. Sleeping on the Schramm box spring bed with organic bed linen was the cherry on top – I slept soooo well that I did not want to leave)) All these efforts made me realize that the hotel cares not only about the guests but also about our planet.
Facilities
The resort has concierge services, a 24-hour front desk, free high-speed WiFi throughout the property, room service, and currency exchange for guests. The property also has an outdoor swimming pool, as well as an indoor pool, and a fitness center.
The breakfast at the restaurant exceeded my expectations – a true resort experience! A station with sweets, pancakes, jams, fresh fruits, and juices next to prosecco, muesli, and cold cuts, and a chef making all types of omelets.
The hotel also has an amazing bar located near the front desk.
SPA
The spa at Bergwelt Grindelwald – Alpine Design Resort, named The Fire & Ice SPA like the eponymous film, is phenomenal. It is very different than other hotel spas I’ve been to before. I guess because the hotel is on the Swiss German side. What I mean by that is that there is a separate room where no bikinis are allowed. As the hotel website says, it is a place where “body and soul come into harmony with four saunas, a textile steam bath, pools, ice fountain and relaxation area with fireplace”. With the swimsuits on, we were allowed to explore an outdoor steam bath and the relaxation area with a fireplace, offering fresh fruits, juices, and a tea bar. So when you book your time slot at the reception, grab an already prepared “feel-good” bag with durable re-usable slippers in your room, and head to the SPA. You can also use the towels, hairdryers, etc in the locker/changing room. By the way, you can also reserve private time in the spa for an additional 300 CHF. Even though we did not go to the private areas, the outdoor open jacuzzi bath was an unforgettable experience!
In conclusion, despite that we did not have a complete spa experience, I would rate the hotel 9 out of 10 as it was mentioned on booking.com. I think it is a wonderful hotel with great staff in a splendid location that displays sustainability practices. I would highly recommend Bergwelt Grindelwald – Alpine Design Resort as the PERFECT getaway!
